Trekking, horseback trips, ranch vacations, fly fishing and educational programs in the heart of Patagonia, Chile. Since 1999.
Patagonia Frontiers offers a variety of fully supported walking treks from our private ranch in Patagonia, Chile and internationally. Our horseback program includes outings ranging from simple trail rides to multi-day horse packing trips and cattle round-ups that traverse valleys, cross rivers, and camp at the edge of glaciers. We also offer itineraries for one to two week fly fishing trips that provide a well-rounded, exciting mix of daily outings for brown and rainbow trout in a wide variety of local waters.
Ranch vacations combine the above activities with a selection of additional choices such as whitewater rafting, wildlife viewing, and agritourism opportunities. Our educational programs work with high schools, universities and other organizations providing logistics and risk management oversight for the institution's established program, and/or offering our own outdoor education and leadership curriculum. Whichever trip you select there will be opportunities for cross-cultural sharing with our Chilean friends and neighbors who live and work frontier homesteads throughout the area.

Our ranch is located in the Soler Valley along the water’s edge of Lago Plomo in the Aisen Region of Patagonia, Chile. The waters of Lago Plomo are the furthest western extension of South America’s second largest lake, Lago General Carrera. The 2000+ acre ranch is situated in the center of an immense, wild landscape of crystalline lakes, deep blue rivers, mountain streams, broad valleys, ancient forests and spectacular, glaciated peaks. The ranch is the western sentinel to over 400 square miles of navigable lake waters and the private gateway to a vast mountain wilderness encompassing the national parks of the Northern Patagonia Icefield and the numerous adjacent ranges.
Guests, including students and teachers on our educational programs, arrive from the regional capital of Coyhaique (pop. 43,000) to the picturesque village of Puerto Bertrand (pop. 127). Puerto Bertrand marks the headwaters of Chile’s largest river and world-renowned fly fishing destination, the Río Baker. From the village dock it is a ten-mile boat ride to our dock and the main ranch house. The ranch is only accessible by boat, horseback journey or floatplane. There are no roads here. This splendid isolation guarantees our exclusive privacy and unique wilderness access.
